oh my goodness i practiced with this video 2 hours before the exam (when I started cramming) after long day of work and got 4th quartile!!!! TYSM!!!!
What medicine specialities are best to shadow if you have a choice to, like should you watch any surgeries or procedures
Are the essays from the premium example hub from students who have been accepted to those schools? I have not seen this mentioned on the website and want to confirm prior to subscribing. Great video as always!
I really appreciate that you're going through all of these! Gives really good direction for a dream school of mine
You’re so welcome! We know it can be tough to decipher these prompts, and they can start to blend together from school to school…
You always give the best advice! I’m applying to medical school this cycle and will take all of your advice. ❤ Do you have any books for sale on Amazon, about tips and tricks to getting into medical school?
We appreciate your kind words! No books at the moment but we have tons more resources in our blog and RUclips publishing pipeline. Speaking of, are you familiar with our med school admissions blog? www.shemmassianconsulting.com/medical-school-admissions-resources
is there evidence that performance on this test is correlated to being an effective physician?
Great question! We're not aware of research presenting longitudinal data that associates Casper performance with performance at a physician. Part of that may be due to Casper not being around for a super long time.
The AMCAS website says "Non-participating schools do not have access to PREview scores until all admissions decisions are complete." so i am confused if it is sent to all schools?
Starting with the 24-25 cycle (i.e., applying in 2024 to matriculate in 2025), PREview is being sent to schools that require it. At the end of the cycle, the score will be released to the other schools (likely for research purposes).
Can i apply to HMS if i have one year chemistry lab experience?
@@mariasultana4268 You can view HMS requirements here: meded.hms.harvard.edu/admissions-eligibility-requirements
This video was super helpful. Thanks!
So glad! You're welcome!
I have early acceptance to LECOM program out of High School. I have to do undergrad at an affiliated college but after that I will ho straight to DO college. No MCAT required. I am wondering should I take it or go traditional route for MD?
Understand that it will be harder to get into specialty residencies and do school has more national exams than md school and omt requirements, but it's your choice. Obviously, LECOM is a special program, so just weigh the pros and cons.
I am a fresh high school graduate and got early acceptance to LECOM. I am thinking should I take it or try traditional route for MD? I got a 34 on ACT and uw GPA 3.84. I wanted to go to BSMD but my GPA is what caused me to lose on getting admit into BSMD.
You perfectly explained it.
There is no difference in skill and that’s all that matters
There is though. DOs go through additional courses and are better skilled in identifying the root cause in addition to just prescribing medicine. It's extra knowledge and skill that the MD does not possess.
Love it!! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
What a badass guy!
Incredible editing skills! 😃
Thank you! 😁
I did notice something but I didn’t identify it as Tourette’s. I honestly think it makes your content more interesting and it seems to accentuate your words nicely
Thanks for your kind words! We’re glad you’re enjoying our content
Im a CT tech and I notice the DOs order cat scans on everyone for every little thing. Radiation is very holistic apparently
This guy is clearly exhibiting symptoms.
I see people with Tourette syndrome and it never bothered me at all. I think it’s kind of cute.
People don't realize that you can get tourettes syndrome...like your not born with it necessarily....like regular everyday people can get it. And obviously it sucks having ticks because it can quickly control your life completely.
Should I not bother applying to HST if I don’t have extraordinary experiences at the intersection of tech and med? It’s definitely what I’m interested in but I guess I’m worried I don’t have enough stand out “evidence” to support that
It's common to feel that you don't have enough to get into HMS. So long as you have demonstrated high achievement across your experiences and can clearly articulate why you want to attend there, you'll be seriously considered.
Thanks charu
Read passage first. Dont try this or you’re doomed
Thank you
Regarding a prompt like prompt #2 that does not apply in my case, am I supposed to leave it blank? I’ve heard the case where optional essays aren’t really “optional” and you should try to fill them in.
Hello! The prompt reads: (Optional) If you interrupted your college education for a semester or longer, please describe what you did during that time. (2000 characters) Given the conditional language, you are correct in that you can leave this one blank. "Optional not really being optional" depends on the specific prompt. In this case, if you have not experienced an interruption of one or more semesters, the prompt doesn't apply to you.
Are you sure you got the names right? On your website you mentioned American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine and the Medical University of the Americas was only an honorable mention.
I wonder why that is? There not better than Caribbean school I’m sure. The candidate should have a fair chance at residency.
The Caribbean medical schools are awful
Fair chance?!? WTF. No way. They are bottom of the barrel.
I do all of them.
okay but telling your classmate that you're going to turn them in but you'll help them plead their case to the conduct committee against the thing you snitched on them for in the first place is crazy 🤣
We hear you! But remember the purpose of the exam: The Casper raters are evaluating your decision-making process and commitment to upholding ethical standards, even if it would be "socially unpopular."
You sir, have blown my mind!
i feel like reading the quesiton stems might shift ur focus while reading from main points to focus only directly on the exact question shifting ur perspective on the text as a whole, so it would be beneificla for questions pointing out stuff but for main idea which is crucial itll hurt it atleast from my perspective if anyone else disagrees please let me know
Tell that to Dr. Buck. He went to a Caribbean school and he’s a general/trauma surgeon working in the US.
Great video. Thank you so much!
You're very welcome!
If your goal is to become a gp then don’t attend med school. Most lowest paid and overworked. I know cause my colleagues complain all the time. The turnover at my hmo with gps is incredibly high.
I'm retaking the MCAT next week and have found rewording questions and eliminating obvious wrong choices first. Good tips!
Glad you found it useful! Best of luck next week!
@@Shemmassianthank you! I took it this weekend and felt more confident compared to my first attempt last year.

there are only 9 MCAT cars passages, not 10... Your tips may be useful but you should really get the basics down if you're going to make videos like these
Dude these videos are absolute gold, i cannot believe this does not have more views

Is it okay to answer "I don't know yet" during an interview for med school? Thank you. 🥹
While we're not sure about the question you're thinking of, we recommend a different approach. For instance, if asked about your plans 5 or 10 years from now, you could begin with something like, "This is something I look forward to actively pursuing during med school. At this point, I've been very interested in..." But no, if your interviewer asks you to "tell them about yourself," we don't recommend an "I don't know" response. ;)
It’s not worth going to Caribbean, not getting a residency in the states, and if you ever match you become a pcp. Not worth it.
1. Money 2. Hoes 3. Drugs 4. Money 5. To help people
Answer, “No way in hell!”
We know many students who have!
@@Shemmassian the percentages of a match for specialty care is so low. Even gp matching is challenging for the Caribbean let alone coming back home to the states. Looking at data, DO is way better option if given.
@@Beck-Stein We hear you on percentages being lower. It’s just that our experience shows with deliberate extracurricular planning, strong STEP scores, and standout applications, many students succeed.
@@Shemmassian i know your consulting company is very good as my niece has gone through it with your program. I just consulted her that if md or do stateside wasn’t possible that being a physician is not an option. Just because a person has a dream it doesn’t mean they are cut out for it intellectually. Luckily you guys helped her into an md school.
@@Beck-Stein We're so glad to have assisted your niece with getting into an MD program! Thanks for staying in touch.
This was very helpful! 💯
So nice! 😊
thank you shirag my glorious goat
hey there, I m in my first year of bachelors of physiotherapy in india. I want to go to Harvard medical school. What would med schools favor more- 1. Undergrad from a US state uni(after taking transfer from india)? 2. Undergrad from india, but a masters(MMSc immunology for eg) from an Ivy like Harvard( provided I get in). If I choose transfer, I ll be limited to state unis cz of my course and fees. For masters, however, I can apply to ivies as well. *(In either case, I ll supplement my education with a post-bacc pre-med program as well)
Regarding GPA x at Princeton carries more weight than GPA x at Penn State. Why would an undergraduate degree at Princeton be objectively better than an undergraduate degree at Penn State? My question is not challenging your statement rather I seek to understand how you made this determination.
Thanks for your question! Dr. Shemmassian has covered this topic here: www.shemmassianconsulting.com/blog/does-undergrad-matter-for-med-school
If you run out of time during video recording, does it automatically save before moving to next prompt?
Yes, the video will auto upload if the timer runs out.
@@Shemmassian thank you. I take the exam next week and your videos have been very useful
